The States of Guernsey are looking for a Designated Safeguarding Officer to join the Quality Assurance Service within Children and Family Community Services.
Salary Range: £69,469 - £78,250 OR £75,952 - £85,559 per annum.
The post holder will act as the Designated Safeguarding Officer for the Bailiwick of Guernsey (including Alderney, Sark and other Islands) and will be responsible for ensuring the States of Guernsey fulfils its obligations for managing allegations against staff and volunteers working with children, young people and vulnerable adults in any setting.
The Designated Safeguarding Officer is an independent role overseeing the management of allegations against persons in a position of trust who work with children or vulnerable adults across the Bailiwick of Guernsey.
This role involves partnership working with the police, child and adult social care teams, Employers (including Charitable Boards) across the Bailiwick, and other relevant professionals.
About the role
In this role, the postholder acts as the Designated Safeguarding Officer for the Bailiwick of Guernsey, including Alderney, Sark, and the surrounding islands. They are responsible for making sure the States of Guernsey meets its duties when handling allegations involving staff or volunteers who work with children, young people, or vulnerable adults.
The Designated Safeguarding Officer works independently to oversee how these allegations are managed across local services. They work in partnership with the police, social care teams, employers, charitable boards, and other professionals to ensure the right processes are followed. This includes offering expert advice to employers on what actions to take, and guiding them through formal investigations that must be completed with accuracy, fairness, and in line with legislation and policy requirements.
A key part of the role is chairing strategy meetings and coordinating multidisciplinary investigations. To maintain neutrality, the postholder does not have direct contact with the person the allegation is about, or with the child, vulnerable adult, or their families.
Are you our ideal candidate?
We are seeking personable and highly organised individuals who:
Holds a recognised Social Work qualification and is currently registered with Social Work England.
Strong specialist safeguarding experience, including recent work as a Local Authority Designated Officer and/or within PiPoT processes.
Solid understanding of safeguarding laws, procedures, and allegation‑management processes, including experience chairing related meetings.
Extensive experience in child protection and adult safeguarding investigations.
Experience creating and delivering safeguarding training.
